Sayeed Ahmed’s play “Kalbela” (The Fatal Time) is an aesthetic creation that explores the ultimate truth of life: death. Set on an island surrounded by the sea, the location serves as a microcosm of the entire world. Directed by M.A.SAMI
The narrative unfolds as the priest Upeng, through Nivedita, attempts to prophesy the future. It is revealed that a massive cyclone will destroy everything at 7:00 PM that evening. Knowing that the end is imminent, the islanders begin to perceive their unfulfilled desires and aspirations in a new light.

Consequently, everyone sets aside their egos, traditions, conflicts, and wars. In these final moments, they reminisce about the joyful days of childhood—the laughter, the games, and the cherished memories—choosing to spend their remaining time bound by friendship. They reflect on the futility of their frantic pursuits and aimless journeys, realizing that the final destination is the same for everyone. Ultimately, the play suggests that instead of dwelling on the failures and frustrations of a meaningless life, the true fulfillment of existence lies in embracing and enjoying the present moment.
